About Us

Frontier Consulting Engineers is an employee-owned engineering firm in Northern California specializing in mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design services. After graduating from the University of Rochester and working in a consulting engineering firm in New York for several years, Ben Abrahamsen returned home to Redding, California, and founded Frontier Consulting Engineers in 2011. Over the years, Frontier has built relationships with a wide range of clients in the healthcare, educational, commercial, industrial, institutional, and hospitality sectors. We work with architects and building owners to construct new and modernize existing structures.
 
Today, our team includes five licensed professional engineers, one engineer in training, and four designers.

Healthcare

VA OUTPATIENT CLINIC

This new Veterans Administration outpatient clinic is designed to serve active duty service members, veterans, and their families under the VA’s Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model.  It includes Behavioral Health, Urgent Care, Radiology, Endoscopy, Pharmacy, Sterile Processing, and Laboratory spaces. Frontier provided design-build mechanical design and energy modeling services to support the successful completion of this project, balancing cost-effective design strategies with the requirements of the VA Design Guide and ASHRAE 170.

Educational

REDDING SCHOOL OF THE ARTS ACTIVITY CENTER

The Redding School of the Arts expanded its campus with this multi-purpose activity center, designed to provide flexible spaces for many educational purposes. Frontier provided mechanical and plumbing design, along with energy modeling services to achieve LEED certification for new construction V4 and Net Zero energy use.

Commercial

BLOCK 7 MULTI FAMILY TOWERS

This new mixed-use multi-story building will provide affordable housing and retail space for downtown Redding. Frontier provided mechanical and plumbing design, including energy modeling for TCAC grant funding to exceed Title 24 requirements by 15%. The design included high-efficiency VRF systems and central heat pump water heating systems.

SOUTHERN ALUMINUM FINISHING ANODIZING
LINE PROCESS PIPING

Frontier provided mechanical, plumbing, and process piping design to complete the installation of this new anodizing facility in 2012. Since that time, Frontier has continued to provide engineering services for a variety of projects at this facility, including industrial ventilation design, chiller system design, boiler replacement, and process tank installations.

This facility provides housing for agricultural workers, six buildings with 20 apartments for each building. Frontier provided mechanical and plumbing design, including commercial laundry spaces.

TEHAMA COUNTY JAIL HVAC UPGRADES
